Rohit Sharma Retirement: Indian Cricket Team Test captain Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from the format. 'The Hitman' revelaed the decision via his Instagram story posted on Wednesday, May 7, thereby, bringing an end of his 12-year career.

"Hello everyone. I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It's been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format," said Rohit Sharma in his Instagram story.

Rohit Sharma Announces His Retirement From Test Cricket

The decision comes in merely a month before India's tour of England, where they play a five-match Test series, thus, embarking their World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle.

Rohit Sharma's Test career

Rohit Sharma ends his Test career with 67 matches under his belt, and led India to World Test Championship 2023 Final, only to lose to Australia in a humiliating fashion.

The 38-year-old scored 4301 runs in 67 matches & 116 innings, which consisted of 12 tons and 18 half-centuries.

Debut

Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in the swansong series of legendary Sachin Tendulkar, as 'The Master Blaster' bid farewell to international cricket after 24 years of unforgettable moments and memories.

Rohit's debut came at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, and the right-handed batter made full use of his opportunity by smashing 177 runs whilst batting at number 6.

Recent Form

Rohit Sharma faced immense criticism for his recent form in Test cricket, as India struggled for consistency both, home and away, in red-ball cricket. India were never whitewashed in a home Test series until New Zealand came knocking on the door.

The Kiwis thwarted India 3-0 at home, and India's hopes for WTC 2025 Final were dashed by Australia, who retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 3-1.

Rohit's final Test series ended up being his one of the worst ones, as he failed to score even a single fifty.
