Moeen Ali's All-Round Show Helps Him Bag MVP In CPL Qualifier 2 | WATCH VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
Moeen Ali chipped in with the bat and ball and helped Amazon Warriors book a berth in the CPL 2024 final.
Moeen Ali proved his worth both with the bat and ball in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 Qualifier 2 between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Royals at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on October 4 (Friday). The English cricketer first chipped in with the ball scalping 2 wickets for 24 runs, playing a key role in bowling the Barbados Royals out for 148, before remaining unbeaten in Guyana Amazon Warriors' successful run chase which has helped them seal a place in the CPL final.
Moeen came out to open the batting for Amazon Warriors and never looked out of place. He scored 44 off 35 and played his part to perfection with his opening partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz first taking the attack to the opposition before Shai Hope took that role as Moeen went about doing his job of keeping one end intact while also scoring at a rate of 125.71. It was no surprise that Moeen was chosen for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) recognition.

Asked Imran Tahir To Let Me Open: Moeen Ali
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Moeen said that he got lucky with his two wickets as neither of those were wicket-taking deliveries. He revealed that he had asked captain Imran Tahir to let him open which worked well for the team.
"I got a little bit lucky actually because obviously full toss, short ball got two big wickets, but it was doing the job for the team like I feel i have done all tournament, especially here in Guyana, amazing place to play cricket and the support I get is outstanding," Moeen said.
"I actually said to Imran I think he should let me open because I have been opening back home in domestic, and he agreed, the coaches agreed as well so it's something I am used to. I feel like my experience, we have so many power players, I can also play that and also knock it around a bit, win the game for my team...just haven't been scoring that many runs down the order, just play good shots, nice to open the batting...yeah just bat as much as I can," he added.

"My role is to knock it around (talks about his role was to knock it around and leave the heavy-lifting to Hope and Gurbaz). I suggested I should open the batting (to captain) because I felt like it was best for the team and everywhere I go Guyanese people say I should open the batting," he stated.
