'It's Like Manchester United vs Liverpool': Moeen Ali On MI vs CSK IPL 2023 Encounter

MI vs CSK is one of the most fierce and celebrated rivalries in the IPL.

MI will take on CSK at the Wankhede Stadium later on Saturday (April 8).

Mumbai Indians are all set to take on the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday. The two teams are the most successful sides in the competition with MI having five titles to their name while CSK emerging as the champions four times. 

MI vs CK is one of the most fierce and celebrated rivalries in this T20 competition and Chennai all-rounder Moeen Ali also agrees to the same. The England star even said that the match is one of the biggest cricket encounters a player can be part of outside of international cricket. He compared the MI vs CSK game to the Manchester United vs Liverpool fixture in the Premier League.

“This is a game I really look forward to. These are the two most successful franchises and the fan-following is huge and this is one of the biggest games you can play as a cricketer outside of international cricket," Moeen said at the pre-match press conference.

"In football’s point of view it is like Manchester United playing Liverpool. These are huge games,” he added.

Despite the two teams being traditionally sides and having an astute captain at their helm, they both had a forgettable outing last season with CSK occupying the ninth place on the points table and MI finishing at the bottom of the table.

As far as the head-to-head is concerned, MI have an edge over CSK and would want to extend their dominance especially at their home ground.

While Chennai have one win and a defeat against their name in two matches, Mumbai have only played a solitary match in the season so far and tasted a defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

MI vs CSK is also dubbed to be El Clasico of the IPL- a term which is used for the epic La Liga rivalry between Read Madrid and Barcelona.
