Ind Vs SA Test Series: India Face Match Fee Fine And Points Deduction In WTC'25
Huge setback for India as they get fined 10% of match fee and face points deduction in WTC'25.
IND VS SA Test Series: India have been deducted two points in their World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 cycle after their agonisingly crushing defeat at the hands of South Africa in the first Test at the SuperSport Park, Centurion, in the two-match Test series, as the Proteas won the match by an innings and 32 runs. Not only India have faced two points deduction due to their loss against the Proteas, but have also been fined 10% of the match fees due to non-maintainence of the required over rate.
The fine has been imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday, December 30 in an offical statement, as per the Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which clearly states that the minimum over-rate shall be maintained and if there are any sort of offences, the respective players are then fined 5% of their match fee for every over their respective side fails to bowl in the allotted period of time. The fine was imposed by Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, after it was found during the investigation that the Rohit Sharma-led side were two overs short of the target.

India, after their crunching defeat, did find themselves languishing at fifth place in the World Test Championship 2025 standings, with 16 points from three Tests and a points percentage of 44.44. However, due to the deduction of points for the slow-over rate in the first Test match against South Africa, India's position in the standings is further dented and now sit at sixth with a points percentage of merely 38.89. The WTC 2025 standings is being led by South Africa who have a points percentage of 100. However, Australia have the most amount of points (42) as they won 4 matches, lost 2, and drew 1 out of their 7 Tests in the two Test series they played in 2023 post-WTC Final.
