IND vs SA, 2nd Test: Kohli Equals Ponting's Record For Second Most Test Tons As Skipper
Kohli notched up the 26th hundred of his Test career, which also happened to be his 19th as captain in the longer format of the game.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Friday equaled former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting's record of registering second highest Test tons as captain.
On Day 2 of the ongoing second Test between India and South Africa at Pune, Kohli notched up the 26th hundred of his Test career, which also happened to be his 19th as captain in the longer format of the game.
Former Australian skipper Ponting had also scored 19 Test centuries and they both are placed jointly at the second spot below former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith who has 25 Test tons to his name.
The century was Kohli's first Test ton this year. Before this, he had scored two fifties in 8 innings he played in 2019.
Kohli, 30, also surpassed legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar to become the fourth quickest player to reach 26 Test tons in terms of innings played. While Kohli had taken 138 innings, Gavaskar had scored 26 centuries in 144 Test innings.
During the course of his inning, Kohli also surpassed Dilip Vengsarkar's tally of 6,868 runs to climb to the seventh position in the list of players with most runs for India in the longest format.
