IND vs SA, 1st Test: Mayank Agarwal Scores Maiden Test Ton, Becomes 86th Indian Centurion In Longer Format

Indian opener Mayank Agarwal brought up his maiden Test ton on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa at Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

Indian Opener Mayank Agarwal put up yet another impressive performance with the willow in red ball cricket as he brought up his maiden Test ton on Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa at Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Mayank thereby emulated the feat of his new opening partner Rohit Sharma, who also registered his maiden century as Test opener on the opening day of the Test match. The right handed batsman, who resumed batting on his overnight score of 84 did not take much time to reach the landmark. He got to his maiden Test century with a trademark cut shot which went past the slip fielder. By getting to the landmark, Agarwal became the 86th Test centurion for India. On Day 1, Mayank Agarwal survived a tight opening spell from South Africa pacers Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander who got the red cherry to do just a bit on an overcast morning. Mayank even survived a scare when an edge off his bat through the vacant area in the slips early in his innings. However, Mayank got into his own groove like his new opening partner Rohit Sharma, and launched an attack on the hapless Proteas spinners. Mayank's consistency at the top of the order has somewhat brought and end to India opening woes in the longer format of the game. With Murali Vijay at the fag end of his career, KL Rahul not showing consistency and Shikhar Dhawan pretty up and down, Agarwal has made a strong case to be the man to persist with in red ball cricket. Mayank has had a pretty consistent start to his Test career, notching up over 400 runs at an impressive average of 58.71. He now has one Test ton and four fifties to his name in the longer format of the game.
