Record Breakers! Jaiswal-KL Rahul Post Highest Indian Opening Partnership At Headingley

At the lunch break, India were 92 for 2, with Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill at the crease.

The five-match Test series between India and England began on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. England won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul made a strong statement with the bat, creating history in the very first session.

Jaiswal-Rahul Set New Record at Headingley

The duo stitched together a 91-run opening partnership — the highest-ever by an Indian opening pair in a Test match at Headingley. No previous Indian pair had crossed this mark at the historic venue, making this a memorable start to the series for Team India.

Rahul’s Solid Knock Ends

KL Rahul looked fluent from the beginning, scoring 42 runs off 78 balls with 8 boundaries. He was eventually dismissed by England pacer Brydon Carse, but not before giving India a strong platform.

Jaiswal Steady, Sudharsan Falls Early

Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his fine form and remained unbeaten on 42 off 74 balls at lunch. On the other hand, debutant Sai Sudharsan had a disappointing start to his Test career, departing for a duck after facing just four balls.

At the lunch break, India were 92 for 2, with Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill at the crease.

Shubman Gill takes charge of the Indian team for the first time in a full-fledged Test match, marking the beginning of a new era. With senior legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recently retiring from the format, all eyes are now on the young skipper as he leads India through a crucial transitional phase.

India’s Playing XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wk), Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.

England's Playing XI: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes(c), Jamie Smith(w), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, Shoaib Bashir.
