IND vs ENG: Rohit To Continue As Captain; Two IPL Stars In Line For Call-Up - Report

The selectors are reportedly eyeing options for the middle order, particularly for the No. 5 or 6 positions.

Rohit Sharma is expected to continue as captain of the Indian team for the upcoming Test series in England.

Despite earlier doubts following India's series defeat to Australia, a Times of India report suggests the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) remains confident in Rohit's leadership for this crucial tour. Around 35 players have been shortlisted for the England tour.

Karun Nair, Rajat Patidar in contention for Test comeback

The selectors are reportedly eyeing options for the middle order, particularly for the No. 5 or 6 positions. Karun Nair and Rajat Patidar are currently seen as the frontrunners. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel are not under consideration at this stage.

A BCCI source told TOI, “Rohit is likely to lead the side. The board believes his experience is crucial for such a demanding overseas series.” On the middle-order search, the source added, “There’s limited confidence in Sarfaraz Khan’s Test credentials. In contrast, Karun Nair and Rajat Patidar are consistent red-ball performers and are in good touch.”

Sai Sudharsan could also be in the mix as a backup opener, while Kuldeep Yadav is being viewed as a potential frontline spinner after R Ashwin's retirement mid-Australia series.

Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah remain automatic picks in the pace department, though Mohammed Siraj's inconsistency has raised some concerns.
