IND vs BAN, 1st Test, Day 3: India Declare 1st Innings At Overnight 493/6

Mayank Agarwal top-scored with a career-best 243. His innings was laced with 28 fours and eight sixes

Overnight batsmen, Ravindra Jadeja (60*) and Umesh Yadav (25*) didn’t come out to bat on Saturday as Team India decided to declare their first innings score of 493 for 6 in reply to Bangladesh’s 150 in the Indore Test. India take a hefty 343-run lead. Mayank Agarwal top-scored with a career-best 243. His innings was laced with 28 fours and eight sixes, equalling Navjot Singh Sidhu’s 25-year-old record of most sixes in an innings by an Indian batsman. Mayank batted for almost the entire day and perfectly anchored the innings. After being dropped on 32 by Imrul Kayes off Abu Jyaed late on the first day, the Karnataka batsman caused havoc at the Holkar Stadium. With this remarkable outing, Mayank closed the gap on Steve Smith who is the highest run-getter this year. Smith has 774 runs from seven innings while Agarwal has amassed 740 in 10 innings. Besides Mayank, Ajinkya Rahane (86), Cheteshwar Pujara (54) and Ravindra Jadeja (60 batting) scored half-centuries as the Indian batters toyed with Bangladesh bowlers who lacked the acumen to stop them besides Abu Jayed who returned best figures of 4/108, his career-best. Rohit Sharma (6) and Virat Kohli (0) failed to leave a mark as they were dismissed cheaply. On day one of the match, India had bundled out Bangladesh for a below-par score of 150 runs. Mohammed Shami was the highest wicket-taker for India as he scalped three wickets. The ongoing series between India and Bangladesh is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC). India is currently at the top of WTC standings with 240 points from five matches. If the side manages to win the ongoing Test, then they will have 300 points from six matches. Brief Score Bangladesh 1st innings: 150 all out in 58.3 overs. India 1st innings: 493 for 6 declared in 114 overs (Mayank Agarwal 243, Ajinkya Rahane 86, Cheteshwar Pujara 54; Abu Jayed 4/108).
