VB-G RAM G Bill: Parliament Uproar Over VBG Ram-G Bill, Kharge Says Removing Gandhi’s Name Won’t End Corruption
A major political showdown erupted in Parliament over the VB-G Ram G Bill, with the opposition strongly objecting to the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from an existing welfare scheme. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of disrespecting Gandhi and attempting to weaken schemes meant for the poor. He said corruption cannot be eliminated by renaming schemes and alleged that the move would hurt workers, Dalits, backward communities, and the poor. Sonia Gandhi also joined the protest march from Gandhi’s statue to Parliament, signalling that the opposition plans to take the fight beyond Parliament and onto the streets. While the government maintains the bill supports workers’ interests, the opposition calls it a political and ideological attack, setting the stage for intense debate in both Houses.
