Rohit Sharma's performance as a batter in Tests while batting in middle order

Rohit Sharma began his Test career in 2013, initially batting in the middle order. Over six years, he established himself as a reliable batter at No. 5 or No. 6, including an impressive debut innings of 177 against West Indies. In 27 matches while batting in the middle order, Rohit scored 1,585 runs at an average of 39.62, with three centuries at No. 6. He has a strong track record while batting in the middle order in Tests.

Why KL Rahul is being prefered over Rohit for opening spot?

KL Rahul's return to form was one of the highlights of India's thumping 295-run victory in Perth Test. After scoring 26 in the first innings, Rahul displayed resilience with a brilliant 77 in the second innings, sharing a record-breaking 201-run opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal. This partnership has cemented Rahul's spot at the top of the order for IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide.

Indian bowlers, led by stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, dismantled Australian betters in Perth. With the Indian cricket team riding high on confidence and a 1-0 lead in five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy, all eyes will be on how Rohit Sharma's middle-order role impacts India's performance in the crucial Pink Ball Test in Adelaide.
