SRH Star Abhishek Sharma Equals Record For Fastest T20 Century By An Indian

Abhishek Sharma reached his ton in just 28 balls, equaling the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian.

Abhishek Sharma, captain of Punjab in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and a key player for Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League (IPL), made history on Thursday by smashing a century against Meghalaya. He reached his ton in just 28 balls, equaling the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian.

His explosive innings, which included 11 sixes and 8 fours, helped Punjab chase down a target of 143 runs in just 10 overs.

Before this match, Abhishek had scored 149 runs in six innings in the tournament, with only one fifty to his name. This remarkable century not only boosted his form but also placed him alongside Gujarat's Urvil Patel, who also scored a 28-ball century against Tripura earlier in the same tournament.

The previous record-holder, Rishabh Pant, had scored a 32-ball century against Himachal Pradesh in 2018. On the global stage, the fastest T20 century belongs to Estonia's Sahil Chauhan, who achieved the feat in 27 balls against Cyprus.

Abhishek Sharma breaks record for most centuries in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

This innings marked Abhishek's fourth century in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a record for most T20 centuries in tournament's history. His unbeaten 106 off 29 balls not only secured a comprehensive win for Punjab but also saw him surpass Suryakumar Yadav's record for most T20 sixes in a calendar year. Abhishek now leads with 86 sixes in 38 innings, surpassing Suryakumar's 85 sixes in 41 innings in 2022.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Baroda registers highest team score ever in T20 cricket

Baroda cricket team, under captain Krunal Pandya, etched its name in the record books on Thursday by posting a monumental total of 349/5 against Sikkim in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

This historic feat, achieved in Indore, marked highest team score ever in T20 cricket, surpassing Zimbabwe's previous record of 344 runs against Zambia in October this year. Baroda also became the first team to cross the 300-run mark in the history of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
