India To Participate In Iconic Hong Kong Sixes Tournament For First Time Since 2012

Hong Kong Sixes: The iconic tournament which features a unique format is all set to make a comeback for the first time in 7 years.

Hong Kong Sixes, the iconic cricket tournament, is all set to return for the first time since 2017. And Guess what? India too will be represented in the competition set to be played from November 1 to November 3 this year. Notably, the tournament features a unique format unlike T20s or T10 and had been an annual affair. However, since 2012, it has only been conducted once.

The news was confirmed by Cricket Hong Kong in a post on X. "Team India is gearing up to smash it out of the park at HK6! 🇮🇳 Prepare for explosive power hitting and a storm of sixes that will electrify the crowd," their tweet read.

IND vs PAK In Hong Kong Sixes?

Notably, India is one of the 11 nations participating in the competition. This includes Pakistan which suggests that there could be a possibility of an India vs Pakistan showdown in the tournament.

As far as the tournament itself is concerned, the first edition of the tournament was staged way back in 1992. Several greats of the game like Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara have taken part in this format where each team is allowed to field only six players. Barring the bowler and the keeper only four fielders are allowed. Barring the keeper, everyone has to bowl an over which means it comes down to five overs per side.

Meanwhile, bastmen are forced to retire when they reach 31. However, they can come back when all all other batters are dimsised or retired. It would be interesting to see which all players feature in this competition from Team India.

The tournament was held every year from 1993 to 1997 before coming back in 2001. It was an annual affair since 2012. In 2017, Hong Kong Sixes was played again but India did not participate in it.
