Hardik Pandya Undergoes 'Successful' Back Surgery In London

India all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to miss the T20I series against Bangladesh which will be played starting November 3

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya underwent a "successful" surgery to treat his lower back issue which has ruled him out of cricket for an indefinite period. Pandya’s back injury had forced him to fly to the United Kingdom to consult the same doctor, who treated him during India's tour of England in 2018 and the 2019 World Cup. Pandya was not picked for the ongoing three-match Test series against South Africa after he aggravated his back during T20I series against the same opponent. The 25-year-old, who will be an integral part of Indian squad in next year's World T20, is set to miss the T20I series against Bangladesh which will be played starting November 3. On Saturday, Pandya posted an image on Instagram with a caption: "Surgery done successfully. Extremely grateful to everyone for your wishes. Will be back in no time! Till then miss me."

“The specialist understands him as they have been in touch over the last couple of years. In fact, even when we were playing the World Cup, he paid a visit to the doctor to get his back checked. You have to understand that no athlete at the top level is 100 per cent. They are always carrying some niggle or the other. The physio is there to help in that. But then, after a point, you need to take a call,” a BCCI functionary had told IANS.
