Birthday Boy Glenn Maxwell Playing Maiden First-Class Match In Over A Year, Named In Victoria Second XI Squad
Glenn Maxwell Is making a red-ball comeback. Maxwell, who turns 36 on Monday (October 14), featured in Victoria's Shield's colours in February last year.
The first visual that may come to a cricket lover's mind when someone says Glenn Maxwell is definitely not of the batter playing red-ball cricket. However, the cricketer himself has not yet lost his red-ball cricket ambitions and has now been namd in his first four-day match in over 12 month as he tries to make a comeback into the national Test side eyeing Australia's tour of Sri Lanka in 2025.
With NSW set to field a star-studded side, Victoria is preparing for the challenges too with then handing Maxwell a return to days' cricket. Maxwell, who turns 36 on Monday (October 14), featured in Victoria's Shield's colours in February last year and has played two first-class matches over the last five years. Maxwell has been named in Victoria's second XI competition side which will play Queensland at the Junction Oval.
Meanwhile, a Cricket Australia report has suggested that Scott Boland will be back for Victoria's senior team after he missed the opening match against Tasmania but it is still not clear whether Glenn Maxwell will join him after playing the Second XI game.

"I think he's an option for the tour of Sri Lanka in January so they want him playing against a red ball," Victoria coach Chris Rogers said of Maxwell.
"This is an opportunity for us – anytime you get the chance to throw in someone like that to talk about batting and fielding and strategy, that's great for us as well," he added.
When Maxwell Came Close To Playing Galle Test
The Australian all-rounder did come close to playing a Test match in Galle in 2022 but Travis Head passed a fitness Test on the morning of the second Test which meant a further wait for him to add to his Test caps. Till now, Maxwell has played seven Test matches- all of which have come on Asian soil.

Maxwell might have gotten a game during Australia's Tour of India but he suffered an injury at a birthday party later that year which ended his hopes.
