Former pacer VRV Singh retires from all forms of cricket

He made his debut for Punjab at the age of 21. He also featured in the Kings XI Punjab squad for the first three editions of the Indian Premier League

Former India pacer Vikram Raj Vir Singh (VRV Singh) announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Wednesday, ending up his short-lived career which was injury-blighted.

VRV made his debut against West Indies in 2006 at St John’s and went on to represent India in five more games in the longest format between 2006-07. He bagged eight wickets with a personal best of 3 for 48. He also played two ODIs for India, debuting against England in 2006 as a part of the rephrased pace attack. However, he could scalp a wicket in two matches.

The 34-year-old last represented Punjab in Ranji Trophy 2014, when he returned with 2 for 65 and 5 for 43 against Jammu and Kashmir, taking his first-class wickets tally up to 121 from 29 games. Unfortunately, he was haunted by the injury that pulled him back from the following season again.

“I kept trying to make a comeback, but if it wasn't my ankle, it was my back. After 2014, I didn't play at all for a few years, but I trained and tried to play in 2018. But I couldn't make it, so I started thinking about the future,” espncricinfo quoted VRV as saying.

He made his debut for Punjab at the age of 21. He also featured in the Kings XI Punjab squad for the first three editions of the Indian Premier League.
