Former Indian Cricketer Wasim Jaffer Appointed Head Coach Of Uttarakhand Cricket Team

New Delhi: The Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) appointed former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer as the head coach of the Uttarakhand state cricket team on Monday. The appointment of the right-handed opening batsman was done through a telephonic interview conducted by CAU secretary Mahim Verma. This will be Jaffer's maiden stint as a coach of a first class team in domestic Indian structure. Jaffer drew a close to a highly successful cricket career in March earlier this year after achieving lofty heights both as a premier batsman and skipper in India's first class cricket fold. Jaffer, hailed as one of the stalwarts of Indian domestic cricket was a prolific run scorer during his first class career representing Mumbai and Vidharbha, scripting numerous batting records in a highly successful career. Jaffer notched up a staggering 19,410 runs at a stupendous average of 50.67. He racked up 57 hundreds and 91 fifties with 314 being his highest score. Jaffer led Mumbai to its 38th and 39th Ranji title, as well as overseeing West Zone's 16th Duleep Trophy success in early 2010. Besides his stellar feats in domestic cricket, the Mumbaikar doned the Indian Jersey in 31 Tests between 2000 and 2008, scoring 1944 runs including five hundreds and 11 fifties. He also represented India in 2 One Day Internationals. The highlight of his international career was scoring a double hundred against West Indies in a Test match at St John's in Antigua.
