Ashes 2023: England Captain Ben Stokes Breaks MS Dhoni's Captaincy World Record With Headingley Run Chase

ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 Test series: Chasing a target of more than 250 in the fourth innings of Test cricket is not an easy task for even the best of teams.

England vs Australia, Ashes 2023: Ben Stokes-led England kept the five-match ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 Test series alive by winning the third Test against Australia by 3 wickets at Leeds. Australia took a 2-0 lead in the series by winning the first 2 Tests and now England have made a resounding comeback to make it 2-1. By the virtue of this victory, English captain Ben Stokes broke a special record of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

In England vs Australia 3rd Test in Headingley, England got a target of 251 runs for the win, which they chased down with three wickets remaining. Now, under the captaincy of Ben Stokes, England have successfuly chased down a target of 250 or more runs in Test cricket 5 times, while under MS Dhoni's captaincy, team India had managed to do this 4 times in Test cricket.

Chasing a target of more than 250 in the fourth innings of Test cricket is not an easy task for even the best of teams. While Ben Stokes is now at number one in this list, Dhoni is at second place, followed by Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara, who jointly hold the third position as under their captaincy their respective teams managed to attain this feat 3 times each.

England set unique feat with record chase at Headingley

When England chased down a 251-run target vs Australia to win the third Test, for the sixth time in history of Test cricket, a team successfully achieved a target of more than 250 runs at Leeds in Headingley.

Headingley too attained an all-time record as it moved to second position where the target of more than 250 has been achieved so many times (6 times). Australia's Melbourne Cricket Ground is at number one in this matter, where a target of more than 250 runs has been chased down 7 times so far.
