Ashes 2023: Moeen Ali Returns, No James Anderson As England Announce Playing XI For 3rd Ashes Test vs Australia

England replace James Anderson with tearaway pacer Mark Wood. Meanwhile, Chris Woakes returns to the side as well, while Moeen Ali, who missed the 2nd Test due to an injury, makes a comeback.

England Playing XI For ENG vs AUS Headingley Test: With England trailing 0-2 against Australia in ENG vs AUS five-match Ashes 2023 Test series, the much-awaited ENG vs AUS 3rd Test will be played from Sunday (July 9) onwards. Ahead of England vs Australia 3rd Test in Headingley, hosts England on July 5 (Wednesday) announced their playing XI for the contest. Notably, England have not included their most successful Test bowler of all time, James Anderson, in ENG playing XI for 3rd Test against Australia. There have been some significant changes in the England team from the previous Test as the team management opted to replace veteran Anderson with tearaway pacer Mark Wood. Meanwhile, Chris Woakes returns to the side as well, while Moeen Ali, who missed the 2nd Test due to an injury, makes a comeback.

Zack Crawley and Ben Duckett will come out to bat as openers in ENG vs AUS 3rd Test. Apart from Joe Root, Harry Brook and Johnny Bairstow will bat in the middle order. Two all-rounders in ENG XI for Headingley Test are captain Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali.  England's pace bowling attack consists of Olie Robinson, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad.

Australia defeated England in the first two Test matches. In this way, the visiting Australian team, also the current Ashes holder, are ahead 2-0 in the five-match ENG vs AUS Ashes 2023 Test series. Stokes-led England showcased promising fight in first two Tests as both the contests turned out to be absolute thrillers. The hosts will be eyeing a comeback in the series by beating Australia in 3rd Test to win their first Ashes Test in 2023.
