Canadian cricket captain Nicholas Kirton has been arrested at Grantley Adams International Airport for allegedly possessing nearly 9 kilograms (20 pounds) of cannabis, according to a report by The Jamaica Gleaner.

As per Canadian laws, possession of up to 57 grams of cannabis is allowed for personal use, but public transport or possession of large quantities is strictly prohibited. Kirton was reportedly caught with more than 160 times the legal limit, leading to his arrest and possible legal action.

Who is Nicholas Kirton?

Nicholas Kirton is a Barbados-born left-handed all-rounder who previously played at the U-17 and U-19 levels for the West Indies.

However, he later became eligible to play for Canada through his mother. He made his international debut for Canada in 2018 and was appointed captain across all formats in 2024.

In his career so far, Kirton has appeared in 21 ODIs, scoring 514 runs, and played 28 T20Is, scoring 627 runs. His consistent performances helped establish him as a reliable top-order batter and a key figure in Canada's cricketing setup-until now.
