With Khawaja being available for selection, Australia in all likelihood remain unchanged from the first Test which they ended up winning by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval. If Khawaja is deemed fit to play, the spare batter in Australia's squad Matt Renshaw will not be allowed to go and play for Brisbane Heat's Challenger final against Adelaide Strikers but also the final against Sydney Sixers on the eve of the second Test on January 24, if Heat secure a place in that fixture.

Following the two-match Test series, the two teams are also set to lock horns in a three-match ODI series beginning on February 2.
