Australia inflicted a thumping 9 wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second of the 3-match T20I series played at the Gabba in Brisbane to wrap up the 3-match series 2-0 . The hosts registered a clinical win riding high on quick fire half tons by their batting mainstays David Warner and Steve Smith and a superlative bowing performances by their bowlers.
The experienced batting duo of David Warner (60) and Steve Smith (53) notched up breezy half tons to chase down the below par 118 target in just 13 overs. Australia lost the sole wicket of their skipper Aaron Finch to seamer Lasith Malinga in the first over of the match.
Earlier in the match, the Aussies bowled out Sri Lanka for a paltry 117-run total courtesy a collective bowling efforts by their seamers and spinners. After Billy Stanlake dismissed opener Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis ran himself out, spinner Ashton Agar got Avishka Fernando and Kusal Perera in quick succession.
Seamer Pat Cummins made short work of Niroshan Dickwella and Stanlake came back strongly to send Dasun Shanaka back to the pavilion. Leg spinner Adam Zampa then polished off the tale by scalping Wanindu Hasaranga and Lasith Malinga.
Kusal Perera top scored for the Lankans with 27, while opener Danushka Gunathilaka scored a fluent 21 runs up the order in an otherwise dismal batting performance.
Australia had beaten Sri Lanka by a comprehensive 134-run margin in the series opener at Adelaide Oval. David Warner had struck his maiden T20 ton to help the hosts take a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series.
