AFG vs WI, ICC World Cup 2019, Toss: West Indies opt to bat; Both teams make 2 changes
Both teams are out of contention for the semi-finals with Afghanistan sitting at the bottom of the points table and West Indies at the penultimate spot
Afghanistan would be looking forward to ending their World Cup 2019 journey on a winning note when they lock horns with West Indies on Thursday at Headingley.
Gulbadin Naib and his boys have failed to register a single victory in this edition. They have come close to defeat India and Pakistan in their last two matches but missed the opportunity by a whisker on both occasions. However, against West Indies, they will feel confident as they have beaten them thrice in four completed matches.
West Indies, on the other hand, have faced seven straight defeats in the tournament after starting their campaign by demolishing Pakistan in their opening game. A win in their final match will be a nice way to exit the big stage.
Both teams are out of contention for the semi-finals with Afghanistan sitting at the bottom of the points table and West Indies at the penultimate spot.
Toss Update:
West Indies skipper Jason Holder has won the toss and opted to bat first. They have made two changes to the side; Evin Lewis comes in for Sunil Ambris and Kemar Roach is back in place of Shanon Gabriel.
“We are gonna bat first. Seems to be a good wicket. It slows down as the game goes on. Just look at this game and finish the competition well,” said Holder at the toss.
Afghanistan have also made two changes for their last match. Dawlat Zadran and Sayed Shirzad come in for Hamid Hassan and Hashmatullah Shahidi.
“I would have wanted to bat first as well. It gets good for the spinners later on. We played really well in the last few games. We will try to play hard,” said Afghan skipper Gulbadin.
Here are the teams:
West Indies: Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope(w), Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Jason Holder(c), Carlos Brathwaite, Fabian Allen, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Kemar Roach
Afghanistan: Rahmat Shah, Gulbadin Naib(c), Asghar Afghan, Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shinwari, Najibullah Zadran, Ikram Ali Khil(w), Rashid Khan, Dawlat Zadran, Sayed Shirzad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman
