Why Is Rang Panchami Celebrated?

Rang Panchami falls on the fifth day of the Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra. It is believed that on this day, deities descend to Earth to participate in the festival of colors and fulfill the wishes of their devotees. Since divine beings are said to exist in an ethereal form, colors are thrown into the air as an offering to invite them to play Holi. According to belief, playing Holi with the deities on Rang Panchami brings joy and dispels sorrows.
