Which Goddess Is Worshipped On The First Day Of Chaitra Navratri — Know Its Significance

Worship Of Goddess On The First Day Of Navratri:

The first day of Chaitra Navratri is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga. The name "Shailputri" means the daughter of the mountains, as she was born to King Himavan (Himalaya). According to religious beliefs, worshipping Maa Shailputri fulfills all desires and brings prosperity and good fortune to devotees.

  • Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Ends: March 30, 2025, at 12:49 PM
  • Auspicious Muhurat for Progress: 9:20 AM – 10:53 AM
  • Best Muhurat (Amrit Kaal): 10:53 AM – 12:26 PM
  • Ghatasthapana Muhurat: 6:13 AM – 10:22 AM
  • Abhijit Muhurat for Ghatasthapana: 12:01 PM – 12:50 PM

Rituals For Worshipping Maa Shailputri:

To begin the worship of Maa Shailputri, devotees should wake up early, take a bath, and decorate the temple area. The Ghatasthapana (Kalash Sthapana) is performed, marking the commencement of Navratri rituals. A picture or idol of Maa Shailputri is placed and adorned with vermilion (sindoor) and red flowers. Devotees offer fruits and sweets to the Goddess and light a ghee lamp in front of her. Chanting the Durga Chalisa and performing Aarti are essential parts of the puja. After completing the rituals, devotees take a vow to observe the Navratri fast.

The Divine Form Of Maa Shailputri:

Maa Shailputri is depicted with a calm and serene expression. She holds a Trishul (trident) in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left hand. She rides the sacred bull, Nandi, which represents strength and devotion. Her form is considered an incarnation of Goddess Parvati and reflects the essence of divinity in the Himalayas.
