March 2025 is set to be a significant month for festivals, with several major Hindu and Islamic celebrations taking place. This month will also mark the transition from the Hindu months of Falgun to Chaitra, bringing in the beginning of the Hindu New Year.

Holi Celebrations: Holika Dahan And Rangwali Holi

The festival of colours, Holi, will be celebrated in March 2025 with great enthusiasm across India.

Holika Dahan (Chhoti Holi) – March 13:
Holika Dahan, also known as Chhoti Holi, will take place on March 13, 2025. This ritual, observed after sunset during Pradosh Kaal, involves lighting a bonfire to symbolise the victory of good over evil. Devotees worship Holika before setting it ablaze, following traditional customs.

Rangwali Holi – March 14:
The vibrant festival of Rangwali Holi will be celebrated on March 14, 2025. This festival, deeply associated with Lord Krishna, is widely popular across India, especially in Braj (Mathura and Vrindavan), where unique celebrations take place.

Rang Panchami – March 19:
Rang Panchami, the concluding celebration of the Holi festival, will be observed on March 19, 2025. Celebrated on the fifth day after Holi, it is particularly significant in Maharashtra, where people continue playing with colours and enjoying festive traditions.

Chaitra Navratri, Hindu New Year, And Other Festivals

March 30, 2025, marks the beginning of Chaitra Navratri, a nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. Alongside this, several other significant festivals will also be celebrated on the same day:

  • Jhulelal Jayanti: A festival dedicated to the Sindhi community's revered deity, Jhulelal.
  • Gudi Padwa: The Maharashtrian New Year, celebrated with special rituals and processions.
  • Hindu New Year (Vikram Samvat 2082): The beginning of a new era in the Hindu calendar.
  • Eid-ul-Fitr: March 31 (Tentative Date)

As per the Islamic calendar, Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be observed on March 31, 2025. However, the exact date will be confirmed based on the sighting of the crescent moon on March 29, 2025.
