A sharp captain and a world-class wicket keeper, MS Dhoni came into this world on this day back in 1981. The former India skipper started playing for India in 2004 and in his 15-year-long career, he has led India to many trophy-winning campaigns including the ODI World Cup, the T20 World Cup, and the Champions Trophy. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the Indian team clinched the T20 World Cup title in 2007. Playing against Pakistan, Dhoni’s men registered a terrific victory and outplayed their arch-rivals. (Getty)

One of the greatest moments came in 2011 when the Indian team under the captaincy of MS Dhoni won the ODI World Cup. They outclassed Pakistan in the semi-final before defeating Sri Lanka in a titanic final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Dhoni ended up scoring 91 runs off 79 balls, finishing off the game by hitting an iconic six. (Getty)

Thala Dhoni added another feather to his hat by winning the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy after they beat England in the final. A nail-biting thriller witnessed India defend  129 runs with Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ishant Sharma taking two wickets each. (Getty)
