The United States has condemned the reported vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco that took place on Sunday.

The United States has condemned the reported vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco that took place on Sunday. "The U.S. strongly condemns the reported vandalism and attempted arson against the Indian Consulate in San Francisco on Saturday. Vandalism or violence against diplomatic facilities or foreign diplomats in the U.S. is a criminal offense," tweets US Department of State Spokesperson, Matthew Miller.

On July 2, a group of Khalistan radicals on July 2 set Indian Consulate on fire in San Francisco. The fire was suppressed quickly by the San Francisco Fire Department. No major damages or staffers were harmed. Local, state and federal authorities have been notified. The US Department of State has strongly condemned the act of violence, as reported by the news agency ANI.

According to ANI, Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Consul General, Consulate General of India, San Francisco, Dr TV Nagendra Prasad have been targeted in a poster purportedly circulated by Sikh extremists who have accused them of playing a role in the June killing of Khalistan Tiger Force chief and designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Earlier in March, raising pro-Khalistan slogans, the protesters broke open the makeshift security barriers raised by the city police and installed two so-called Khalistani flags inside the Consulate premises. Two consulate personnel soon removed these flags, as reported by the news agency PTI. Soon thereafter, a group of angry protesters entered the consulate premises and started hitting the door and windows with the iron rods.
