Pakistan PM's special assistant to meet team Trump

Washington: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's special assistant for foreign affairs, Tariq Fatemi, will meet with officials of the US President-elect Donald Trump's transition team in the United States this weekend. "Besides meeting members of the transition team, Mr Fatemi will meet officials of the outgoing Obama administration," the Dawn quoted Pakistan Ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani, as saying. Trump, who is scheduled to take the oath on January 20, has already set up a provisional team, encouraging foreign leaders and officials to visit his headquarters in New York for familiarisation meetings. Fatemi, who will be on a two-week official visit to the United States, is also expected to meet some members of the team provisional team besides interacting with the new lawmakers elected last month. "This is a very important visit as much has happened in Washington since the November 8 elections," said Jilani. The visit follows a telephonic conversation between Prime Minister Sharif and Trump on Wednesday during which the US leader expressed his desire to continue a productive relationship with Pakistan .
