Three students who died were a 16 year old boy, a 14 year old girl and a 17 year old girl, said the Sheriff. Two out of the eight injured were in surgery while other six were in a stable condition

New Delhi: A shooting at the Oxford High School in the state of Michigan in the United States has left 3 students dead and 8 injured according to the authorities as reported by CNN. AMong the 8 injured people. Among the three students who succumbed to the shootings were a 16 year old boy, a 14 year old girl and a 17 year old girl, said Michael G McCabe, Oakland County Sheriff.

Out of the eight injured, one was believed to be a teacher. Two out of the eight injured people were in surgery while the other six were in a stable condition with “various gunshot wounds.”

At around 12:51 ET, several calls about an active shooter were dialed at 911. “We received over 100 911 calls to our dispatch center,” McCabe said. The suspect was taken into custody by the deputy assigned to the Oxford High School and another deputy.

According to McCabe, a handgun was recovered from the suspect. Multiple shell casings were also recovered by the authorities on the basis of which they believe 15-20 shots were fired. McCabe said that there was no indication that the suspect was wearing body armour. "At this point in time, we believe he acted alone," McCabe said. “Authorities are aware of how the suspect allegedly got the gun into the school, but declined to divulge those details,” added McCabe.

The suspect was a sophomore at the High School as per the report. McCabe said that suspect’s parents had hired an attorney and did not permit that he talked to the police.

Students at the Oxford High School recounted the horrific incident. According to the report,  Aiden Page, a senior at the high school said that as and when he, his classmates and his teacher heard the two gunshots, his teacher locked the classroom. The other students covered the windows and hid. The class was locked for an hour. Students reached out for what was available with them to arm themselves. "We grabbed calculators, we grabbed scissors just in case the shooter got in and we had to attack them," he said. "Some were crying, some were trying to support others. Others were trying to come up with ideas just in case," Aiden added.

The experience was “insane” said Aiden. "The very first thing in my head was, 'Is this actually happening? I'm going to text my family, say I love them just in case, if I were to die.' Then when everything calmed down for a second, I was able to catch my breath and rationalize things," he said.

Addressing the shooting in Minnesota on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden said, "My heart goes out to the families enduring the unimaginable grief of losing a loved one. You've gotta know that that whole community has to be in a state of shock right now," as reported by CNN
