2 Women Killed In Shooting Spree At US Church, Suspect Shot Dead
Two women died and others were injured after a suspect opened fire inside a Lexington church following a traffic stop. Police later shot the attacker dead.
A peaceful Sunday morning turned tragic in Lexington, Kentucky, after a series of violent events led to the deaths of two women and left multiple others injured. The violence began with a traffic stop and ended with a deadly shooting inside a local church.
According to Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers, a state trooper had pulled over a vehicle near the city’s airport shortly before noon after receiving a license plate alert. During the stop, the driver opened fire, wounding the trooper. Despite the attack, the officer survived and remains in stable condition.
Following the shooting, the suspect reportedly carjacked a vehicle and fled the scene. Authorities later traced the stolen car to Richmond Road Baptist Church. There, in a horrifying turn of events, the suspect opened fire on churchgoers.

Tragedy Strikes A House Of Worship
The gunfire inside the church left two women dead: one aged 72 and the other 32, as confirmed by the Fayette County Coroner. Two additional individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, one in critical condition and the other stable.
Law enforcement responded quickly and fatally shot the suspect at the scene. The individual’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family. Preliminary findings suggest that the suspect may have known some of the victims at the church, though further details remain under investigation.
Community And Officials React To ‘Senseless’ Violence
The shooting has deeply shaken the community and its tight-knit congregation. Governor Andy Beshear took to social media, urging the public to pray for the victims and thanking the Kentucky State Police and Lexington Police Department for their swift action.
“Today, violence invaded the Lord’s House,” said State Attorney General Russell Coleman.
As authorities continue to probe the motive and connections behind this chilling attack, the state of Kentucky mourns the lives lost in yet another incident of gun violence that shattered a place of worship and peace.
