US Cop Imprisoned For Murder Of George Floyd Stabbed In Jail, Says Report

The US cop who was imprisoned for the murder of George Floyd was stabbed in a prison on Friday.

Former US police officer Derek Chauvin, who murdered George Floyd, was stabbed in a prison, reported news agency AP citing sources. Floyd's murder sparked massive protests in 2020 over racial injustice meted out to people of colour. The US Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed an assault to AFP without naming the person injured. It said, "An incarcerated individual was assaulted at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Tucson."
According to news agency Associated Press report, the attack took place at the Federal Correctional Institution, Tucson, which is a medium-security prison that has been plagued by security lapses and staffing shortages. The Bureau of Prisons confirmed that a person was assaulted at around 12:30 pm local time on Friday. The agency added that the responding employees contained the incident and performed 'life-saving measures' and rushed the inmate to a hospital.

It further said that no employees were injured and the FBI had been notified about the incident.

This is also the second major incident to happen at the Tuscon federal prison in a span of a year. In November 2022, at inmate pulled out a gun and tried to shoot a visitor in the head. The weapon misfired and no one got hurt.
