Hindu Temple Defaced With Hate Graffiti In Australia, Days After Assault On Indian Student

A Hindu temple and two Asian restaurants were defaced with hate messages in Melbourne days after report of assault on an Indian student in Adelaide.

Just a day after reports of a brutal assault on an Indian student sent shockwaves through Australia’s Indian community, fresh incidents of targeted hate have emerged in Melbourne, deepening concerns over rising racial hostility.

The Swaminarayan Temple in Boronia, located on Wadhurst Drive, was found defaced with disturbing graffiti, including a spray-painted image of Adolf Hitler alongside the racial slur “Go Home Brown C**T.” The same hateful message also appeared on the walls of two nearby Asian restaurants, according to The Australian Today.

The timing of these incidents has heightened alarm, coming so soon after the violent attack on the student. Community leaders say the coordinated nature of the vandalism suggests a deliberate attempt to sow fear and division among Melbourne’s multicultural population.

Makrand Bhagwat, president of the Victoria chapter of the Hindu Council of Australia, condemned the desecration, calling it a direct assault on the community’s values and freedoms.

“Our temple is meant to be a sanctuary of peace, devotion and unity,” Bhagwat said. “To have it targeted in this way feels like an attack on our identity, our right to worship, and our freedom of religion.”

In response, Victoria Premier Jacinta Allan issued a strongly worded letter to the temple’s management, expressing solidarity and vowing swift action.

“This wasn’t just an act of vandalism — it was a hateful and racist attack, clearly intended to intimidate, isolate and spread fear,” Allan stated. She confirmed that an immediate investigation has been launched to identify and hold those responsible to account.

The twin incidents, including the assault on the student and the defacement of religious and cultural spaces, have ignited urgent calls for stronger protections and public dialogue around racial harmony in Australia.
