'Bengal Wants Shanti, Sonar Bangla, Pragatisheel Bangla': PM Modi At Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground

PM Narendra Modi at Kolkata's Brigade Parade Ground: Launching a fresh attack against the ruling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, PM Modi said that the Bengal wants 'shanti', 'sonar Bangla', 'pragatisheel Bangla'. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed a rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata to woo the people of Bengal ahead of the state Assembly elections which are scheduled for later this month. 

At his arrival, Actor Mithun Chakraborty, who joined the saffron party today, greeted the Prime Minister. Flagging of his address, PM Modi started by raising slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai.'

Speaking at the rally, PM Modi said he has never been blessed with such a large crowd. "I have had the privilege of addressing hundreds of rallies in political life, but in such a long tenure I have never been blessed with such a large mass group, I have got such a scene today." 

Highlighting the historical importance of the Brigade Parade Ground, PM Modi said, "This Brigade Parade Ground has been witness to many great leaders and also witnessed those who have disrupted West Bengal's progress. People of Bengal never left their hopes for change. Around the brigade ground, on one side is the birthplace of Swami Vivekananda, Netaji, on the other hand. On one side, there is the birthplace of Maharishi Sri Aurobindo, and on the other end there is the birthplace of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee."

Launching a fresh attack against the ruling Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, PM Modi said that the Bengal wants 'shanti', 'sonar Bangla', 'pragatisheel Bangla'. 

"The dream of 'sonar bangla' will be fulfilled. Today, I have come here today to assure you of Bengal's development, to increase investment here, to protect Bengal's culture and to bring change. The next 25 years are very important for the development of Bengal. The development here in the next 5 years will lay the foundation for State's development in the next 25 years," PM Modi said. 

Attacking the TMC supremo, PM Modi asked the crowd has TMC been able to bring change in the lives of common people here in the last 10 years. Assuring to beinging development in the state, PM said "I have come here to make you believe that we'll work hard for farmers, businessmen & the development of sisters and daughters. You know it very well how the democratic system has been destroyed here. BJP will strengthen this system. We will bring the change to re-establish public belief in govt systems, in the police, and the administration."

Earlier today, actor and former Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mithun Chakraborty joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in presence of West Bengal Party President Dilip Ghosh and National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya.

Mithun Chakraborty joining BJP is yet another significant step by the saffron party as it attempts to dethrone CM Mamata Banerjee let TMC government in the state amid the fierce 'Battle For Bengal' in the upcoming 8-phase assembly polls. 

The state assembly election will be held for all 294 seats wherein the voting will take place in 1,01,916 polling stations all over West Bengal. Elections to the 294-member Assembly will be held in eight phases, from March 27 to April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2. The magic figure to be the ruling party in the West Bengal Assembly is 148.
