Asansol Bypoll: Violence Breaks Out During Voting. BJP Blames TMC Members Of Hurling Stones

New Delhi: Violence broke out during the bypoll voting for Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal’s Asansol on Tuesday, reported news agency ANI. Agnimitra Paul, candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party for this seat blamed the Trinamool Congress for the violence, saying that police did not take any action.
“TMC people attacked us, hurled stones at our convoy. Police doing nothing, " said Agnimitra, quoted by the news agency.

She held West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for the violence saying that “TMC people thrashed our security with bamboo sticks... No matter how hard Mamata Banerjee tries, BJP is winning here.”
The BJP candidate also targeted Mamata Banerjee over her comment regarding the rape and murder of a minor in Nadia distirict.
“I'm ashamed that being a woman and CM of the state Mamata Banerjee made shameful comments that it has to be seen if the rape victim (Nadia minor rape & murder case) had a love affair or that she was pregnant,” she said.
Polling is underway for Asansol and Ballygunge Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal as Babul Supriyo resigned as Lok Sabha member from Asansol after joining TMC and the Ballygunge seat fell vacant following the demise of minister Subrata Mujkherjee last year.
The TMC has fielded actor Shatrughan Sinha from the Ballygunge seat while Babul Supriyo from Asansol seat.
