VIRAL SACH: PM Modi paid Iran’s debt piled up under UPA regime?

New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi visited Iran last month. Deals were signed between the countries. Now, a message is going viral that says PM Modi paid back Iran’s debt. Here is the reality of the viral post. Despite lower value of oil in international market, masses have to shell out more for oil. The message says India is under debt of money it was not able to pay for oil procured in the past. We take 5 lakh barrels per day from Iran and we owed Iran 43 thousand crore rupees as oil bill. PM Narendra Modi paid an installment of the debt, the message said. We talked to Narendra Taneja to know about the truth. He is the national convener of BJP’s energy cell. He said PM Modi paid an installment of the debt piled up in the UPA government’s regime. The UPA government paid just 55 per cent of the oil bill to Iran. The money is not just 43 thousand crore rupees as Iran wants payment in the current value of Euros. India paid Rs 5000 crore back to Iran. The message was true.
