Vikramaditya Singh, Son Of Congress Veteran Karan Singh, Resigns From Party

Grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last reigning Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Vikramaditya had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 but later resigned in 2017.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader, Karan Singh’s son Vikramaditya Singh has tendered his resignation from the Congress party on Tuesday. Vikramaditya was a member of the Legislative Council of Jammu and Kashmir. 

Citing reason for resignation, Vikramaditya said that his position on critical issues like Jammu and Kashmir was not aligned with that of the party. “I hereby tender my resignation from the Indian National Congress. My position on critical issues vis-à-vis Jammu & Kashmir which reflect national interests do not align with that of the Congress Party. @INCIndia remains disconnected with ground realities,” he tweeted. 

 

In his resignation letter written to party president Sonia Gandhi, the former MLC wrote, “I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress with immediate effect. It is my belief that the INC is unable to realise and reflect the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” 

Grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, the last reigning Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Vikramadaitya had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party in 2015 but later resigned in 2017 over issue of holiday on the birthday of his grandfather. 

Later he joined Congress and contested from Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 Lok Sabha elections but had lost to Jitendra Singh of BJP. 

Apart from politics, VIkramaditya is also a businessman and a hotelier and is Managing Director of Taragarh Palace Hotel in Himachal Pradesh.
