Toyota Glanza: Everything You Need To Know

While it may be a near exact replica of the Baleno, Toyota will give the Glanza revised bits to help distinguish it from Maruti’s premium hatchback.

Japanese carmakers Toyota and Suzuki signed an agreement last year that would see both take cars from each others portfolio and rebadge them to sell as their own. Toyota’s upcoming premium hatchback, the Glanza, is the first outcome of that relationship. As you can see from the images, it’s based on Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno. Here are five things you need to know about this hatchback: 1. Will look like the Baleno: A recent teaser from Toyota has led us to the conclusion that the Glanza will look similar to the Baleno. Differences will be present in the form of tweaked bumpers and different tail lights and head lamps. However, the easiest difference to spot between the two will be the badge. The alloy wheels on offer look similar too. We expect the same pattern to be followed for the interior. 2. No diesel power: Maruti recently announced that it will stop selling diesel cars from April 2020 in view of upcoming BS 6 emissions norms. Toyota looks to stay on the same path. Instead, the 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine that is present in the Baleno will be present in the Glanza too. It will be available with a 5-speed MT or CVT. The 1.2-litre K12C petrol engine with Smart Hybrid Technology could also be offered on the Glanza. 3. Booking, launch and variants: Currently, Toyota dealerships are not accepting bookings for the Glanza. The launch is expected to happen in the first week of June and that is the period bookings are expected to begin. Toyota is not expected to offer the Glanza in the same number of variants that Maruti does for the Baleno. Instead, its base variant could start around the Delta variant, which is a mid-spec variant for Maruti. 4. Equipment list: The equipment on offer in the Glanza is expected to be similar to the Baleno. Dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters, seat belt reminder, ISOFIX child seat anchors, rear parking sensors, high speed warning are all offered as standard in the Baleno. We expect a similar set of features in the Glanza. While the mid-spec Delta variant of the Baleno comes with LED projector headlamps with LED guide lights and auto climate control, the top-spec Alpha variant gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, UV-cut glasses, DRLs, rear view camera, and more. So expect the Glanze to be as feature-rich as well. However, Glanza is likely to be priced slightly higher when compared to the Baleno. Available in Delta and Zeta with a manual transmission, the Baleno DualJet Dual VVT is priced from Rs 7.25 lakh to Rs 7.86 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). One of the reasons for the premium positioning could be the mild-hybrid CVT powertrain which is expected in the Glanza but isn’t available with the Baleno. Toyota could also offer a better standard warranty than Maruti to justify the expected price premium. While Maruti offers the Baleno with a 2-year/40,000km warranty, Toyota offers its popular models with a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty. Expect the Glanza to get the same treatment as well. 5) First result of Toyota-Suzuki partnership: The Glanza is the first product to come out of the Toyota-Suzuki partnership and it won’t be the last since even the Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Ertiga will soon undergo badge engineering. Like the Glanza, expect these rebadged models to feature a slightly different design to tell them apart from their donor versions. The Glanza, which will be manufactured at Maruti’s manufacturing plant, will be sold and serviced at Toyota’s dealerships. https://www.cardekho.com/india-car-news/balenobased-toyota-glanza-5-things-you-should-know-23609.htm
