To Avoid Crowd At Liquor Shops, Puducherry To Begin Home Delivery Of Alcohol

Following the Delhi government which recently made a similar announcement on home delivery of alcohol via apps, Puducherry announced the facility on June 8.

The announcement came after the liquor shops in Puducherry witnessed a heavy rush after the Union Territory relaxed lockdown norms and allowed opening of these outlets from June 8 between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The liquor shops and arrack shops were closed after the government announced a partial lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As per official sources, the administration has directed the excise department to look into the alternative of home delivery of liquor to reduce crowd thronging at liquor shops.

Lockdown has been extended in Puducherry by another week from June 7 midnight to June 14 along with easing of several restrictions.

As per the order, the functioning of retail units of liquor shops, including arrack shops will be allowed from 9 am to 5 pm every day by strictly following the COVID safety norms. Goods transport, public transport facilities such as buses, autos, taxies are permitted to operate up to 5 pm every day.
