'Bengal Wants Its Own Daughter': TMC's Poll Slogan Hails CM Mamata As 'Insider', BJP Leaders 'Outsider'

The TMC Slogan  - 'Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye', which translates to 'Bengal wants its own daughter'- was accompanied with Banerjee's photo on the hoardings which were officially launched by the state's ruling party across Kolkata.

Portraying chief minister Mamata Banerjee as the daughter of Bengal, the Trinamool Congress on Saturday launched its party’s campaign slogan barely two months ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in West Bengal.

The TMC Slogan  - 'Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chaye', which translates to 'Bengal wants its own daughter'- was accompanied with Banerjee's photo on the hoardings which were officially launched by the state's ruling party across Kolkata.

According to the reports, senior party leaders Derek O’Brien, Subrata Bakshi, Partha Chatterjee, and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were present at the unveiling of the slogan. The hoardings for the poll will once again be launched at district level events on Sunday, February 21.

The slogan adds teeth to the ‘insider vs outsider’ debate as it portrays Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the daughter of Bengal while the leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party as the ‘outsiders’. It clearly portrays the focus of the party's campaign which is ousting the ‘bohiragoto’ (outsiders) and retaining seats on votebank of women of Bengal.

Polls to the 294-member West Bengal Assembly is expected to be held sometime in April-May this year. Though the Election Commission is yet to announce the dates, the polling body has begun the training of over 20,000 polling officers in the state.

Meanwhile, the major political parties which mainly include TMC, BJP and Indian National Congress, are running their poll campaign in the state in full swing. The Mamata led-TMC is already engaged in a political spat with the saffron party led by Amit Shah-JP Nadda.
