'Terrorism Largely Fueled By Pakistan': Congress Leader Rashid Alvi Joins Mani Shankar Aiyar In Criticizing The Partition
Congress leader Rashid Alvi backs Mani Shankar Aiyar, calling India's partition a historic mistake and blaming Pakistan for fueling terrorism. Calls for stronger border security.
In a recent statement, Congress leader Rashid Alvi echoed the sentiments of his party colleague Mani Shankar Aiyar regarding the unfortunate partition of India in 1947. Alvi, while speaking about the impact of the partition, stated that the division of the country was a grave mistake, suggesting that if India had remained united, the current situation would have been vastly different.
Alvi remarked, “Had India remained intact, the current circumstances could have been very different. The terrorism we face today is largely fueled by Pakistan. If Pakistan had never been created, there would have been no terrorism. The partition led to immense suffering, with millions of lives lost and many people rendered homeless. However, we must also acknowledge the current geopolitical reality, with Pakistan and Bangladesh in existence today, and face the challenges that come with it. While the partition was wrong, we cannot tolerate terrorism spilling over our borders.”
"Pakistan comes and attacks; we cannot tolerate this any longer," Alvi asserted, highlighting the need for strict border security. “The responsibility lies with the Indian government to secure our borders. During his tenure as Chief Minister, the current Prime Minister raised concerns about the security lapses at the borders. The government must act decisively to prevent infiltrations and take strong action against Pakistan,” he added.
On Mani Shankar Aiyar's Comment That Muslims Don't Feel Respected in India
In response to Aiyar’s earlier comments about Muslims feeling disrespected in India, Alvi emphasized that the rise of hatred in the country over the past decade has created an atmosphere of fear and alienation. He referred to the inflammatory remarks made by various political leaders, including the Chief Minister's statement about burying people alive and the Minister’s remark about boycotting Muslim businesses. Alvi warned that such rhetoric was worsening the situation and creating divisions within society.
Simranjit Singh Mann Questions Lack of Evidence Against Pakistan
Meanwhile, Simranjit Singh Mann, also voiced concerns about the lack of evidence regarding the actions of Pakistan-based terrorists. “It is the responsibility of the Indian government to investigate and gather evidence about who is responsible for the attacks, apprehend those behind them, and ensure justice for the victims. The bloodshed in Jammu and Kashmir demands retribution and decisive action,” said Mann.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat also weighed in on the matter, stating that it is the duty of the government, or 'the king,' to ensure the safety and security of its people. Alvi acknowledged Bhagwat’s remarks but questioned the government's failure to protect citizens. “While Bhagwat is right in saying the ruler must protect the people, the government has failed in this regard. Numerous lives have been lost due to security lapses. The question remains: who is responsible for this failure?” he asked.
Himanta Biswa Sarma's Criticism of Nehru on Indus Water Treaty
In a related development, Hemanth Vishwas Sharma, a BJP leader, criticized former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for signing the 1960 Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. Sharma called it a “political blunder” but was questioned about his own political stance. “You have been part of Congress for so many years, even holding ministerial positions in Assam. If Nehru’s decision was such a mistake, why did you spend the better part of your life in Congress?” he remarked, highlighting the contradictions in some political leaders' positions.
On Prime Minister Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' Claim About Kashmir’s Development
Finally, in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments during his 'Mann Ki Baat' address, where he stated that the development work in Kashmir was accelerating but terrorism was hindering progress, Alvi emphasized that security should take precedence over development. “Security is the foundation of any development. Without a secure environment, we cannot progress. The Indian government must take responsibility for the failures in border security and take strict actions against those responsible for these incursions. The victims’ families deserve justice,” Alvi concluded.
