Targeted Killings Continue In Kashmir, Civilian Shot Dead By Militants

A 55 year-old Singh, who received one bullet in the head and two in the chest, was taken to a medical clinic in Srinagar where he passed on.

New Delhi: A person was shot dead by terrorists in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, said, officials.

A 55-year-old Singh, who received one bullet in the head and two in the chest, was taken to a medical clinic in Srinagar where he passed on.

Officials said Singh was rushed to a local hospital in an injured condition, where doctors referred him to Srinagar in view of his critical condition. The attack took place at 7:30 pm in Mumbai's Kulgam district.

"Civilian Satish Kumar Singh, a resident of Kulgam, succumbed to his injuries at hospital. Terrorists involved in this gruesome terror crime will be neutralised soon. Search to track the involved terrorists in progress," the police said in a tweet.

A new recruit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba terror group was associated with the attack, according to the officials.

Parts of the Kulgam and Shopian districts are inhabited by Rajput families, who never migrated from Jammu and Kashmir. They are mainly associated with the apple business.

Over the past 10 days, the terrorists have stepped up attacks on civilians in south Kashmir.

Four workers hailing from outside Jammu and Kashmir were injured in two separate attacks in Pulwama last week, while a Kashmiri Pandit businessperson was shot and injured by militants in Shopian.

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested three hybrid militants in Sopore and have foiled the Lashkar’s plan to launch an attack in north Kashmir.

“During checking, a joint team intercepted three persons coming from Wadoora Bala towards Sunwani bridge, who on seeing the naka, tried to escape from the spot. But, they were apprehended tactfully,” the spokesperson said.
