Suvendu Adhikari Says TMC Behind 'Big Scam' Over Central Funds In Bengal, Demands CBI Probe
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has demanded a CBI probe into the alleged corruption by the TMC over central government funds in Bengal.
BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari has accused the TMC of swindling the central government's funds and demanded a CBI probe into the alleged corruption as the Mamata Banerjee-led party lodges in Delhi to protest against the Centre for withholding the release of funds to the state under some central government schemes, including MGNREGA.
The BJP leader alleged that thousands of village heads belonging to the Trinamool Congress, backed by state government officials, are involved in alleged corruption to the tune of thousands of crores in the state about work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Act (MGNREGA). "It is a big scam. It will turn out to be the biggest scam after Independence," he claimed, hitting out at "bua-bhatija", a reference to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
Meanwhile, TMC leaders headed by Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee had been protesting in the national capital over the last two days.
Accusing the party of corruption, Adhikari said the TMC used to be a national party but is now a regional party which is fast losing its base in West Bengal, adding that the protest in the national capital was a ploy aimed at retrieving its shrinking support.
It has become a habit of the TMC to do politics on every issue and dream of power at the Centre, and that is why it has joined the INDIA bloc of "ghamandia" (arrogant) parties, he said.
These people are staying here in a five-star hotel and doing a drama, he claimed. He said over one crore job cards under the MGNREGA scheme were deleted for various reasons, claiming that thousands of crores of rupees were pocketed by corrupt ruling party functionaries and government officials, news agency PTI reported.
TMC leaders staged a sit-in protest in Rajghat against the Centre on Monday. Senior party leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay alleged that the Delhi Police attacked Abhishek Banerjee when the delegation reached Raj Ghat. Speaking with the media, Bandyopadhyay said, "Just now, they tried to attack Abhishek Banerjee...I was there...Shame to this Government, we are surprised."
