Welcoming the verdict, Kumar said "This is absolutely right. The Sc decision has now made it clear that the approach of Bihar police was legally correct and justified. Everything was done in accordance with the law.
He said," This is not a victory for us, it is a matter of justice. The case has nothing to do with Bihar elections, it has to do with justice. "
Even before the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court, the Bihar government had recommended the case to be handed over to the CBI, which was then accepted by the Central Government.
Earlier also, Nitish Kumar had criticized Mumbai Police for the delay and for quarantining an IPS officer from Bihar. Expressing displeasure at the quarantining of Patna SP Vinay in Mumbai, Nitish had said, “they quarantined the IPS officer who went there. This is wrong in so many ways. What Maharashtra government has done here is unfair.”
The 34-year-old actor was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14.
After about a month-long investigation by Mumbai Police which yielded no substantial result, the late actor’s family filed complaint against his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty with Patna police, accusing her of transferring money from his account.
The case was then transferred to CBI on the recommendation of Bihar government. Rhea Chakraborty challenged the jurisdiction of the Bihar Police in the matter in her written submission and told SC that the Patna FIR could at best be regarded as a zero FIR.
