Six People, Who Went Missing Amid Heavy Snowfall, Rescued From J&K's Warwan

Six people, who went missing in heavy snowfall earlier this week, have been traced and rescued by police in Kishtwar district.

New Delhi: Six people, who went missing earlier this week in South Kashmir's Warwan district amid heavy snowfall, were traced and rescued by police on Friday, said Dr Piyush Singla, DC Anantnag.

All the six persons Ajaz Ahmed, Akbar, Gh Nabi, Gulzar Ahmed, Manzoor Ahmed, and Irshad Ahmed are residents of the remote village of Warwan in Kishtwar region of Anantnag district. They were stuck in snow for three days.

These people had gone missing on Tuesday when they were on their way home to Warwan village. 

One Wali Mohammed from Anantnag had informed the police in snow-bound Kishtwar that his six relatives, who were going towards Warwan from Anantnag, had got trapped at via Margan Top, PTI reported.

Following this, Kishtwar senior superintendent of police Shafqat Hussain Bhat directed the police to launch a search and rescue operation for their safe evacuation.

A three-pronged rescue operation was launched to locate these missing individuals, as per the local officials. 

One team proceeded by road along with a snow cutter machine and JCB, headed by an SDM accompanied by Tehsildar, MED and NHIDCL officials. Another rescue team of Army and local volunteers searched for the missing individuals on foot.

The officials had further told ABP News that helicopter rescue teams had also been kept on standby at Larkipora. 

Many parts of the Kashmir Valley and high altitude areas of Jammu, including Warwan and Maran Top, have been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall since Tuesday.
