New Honda Amaze 2018 vs Ford Aspire vs Tata Tigor vs VW Ameo: Spec Comparison

Honda will be launching the second-generation Amaze on 16th May 2018, renewing its rivalry with some formidable rivals in the segment. We have already compared it with the Maruti Dzire and the Hyundai Xcent (read about the comparison with the Dzire here). To see how it fares against the rest of the competition, read on.

Since these are all sub-4m sedans, the length remains nearly identical, but when it comes to width the Amaze stands tied with the Aspire for the top spot here. When it comes to height, the Amaze is the second shortest among the five with the Ameo standing 24mm lower than it, which means getting inside the Amaze might be a bit difficult in comparison as you’ll have to bend a little more.

Honda’s increased the wheelbase of the second-gen Amaze by 65mm and it now stands at 2470mm. While the Aspire has a larger wheelbase, we certainly know that the second-gen Amaze is more spacious than the first-gen, with the rear kneeroom being extended by 40mm, as claimed by Honda.

The luggage capacity in the Amaze is now the best in segment with the Tigor closing in on its heels. The increase in volume suggests that the Amaze can now carry more luggage than any other car in the segment.

The new Amaze retains the previous 1.2-litre petrol engine and it still is the most powerful 1.2-litre unit in this particular comparison. However, Ford offers a 1.5-litre petrol engine in the Aspire that makes over 100PS of maximum power. Those opting for the Amaze petrol with CVT will be happy to know that it’s the only car in the segment that gets paddle shifters behind the steering wheel for changing gears. Since the Amaze’s petrol engine is the most happy when kept in its ideal powerband, the flappy paddles can be put to good use too for keeping it in the right gear!

Between these four cars, the Amaze’s diesel engine with manual transmission is the most efficient. It’s not the most powerful though. Honda will, for the first time in India, offer a CVT with a diesel engine and it’ll be on the Amaze. With the CVT, Honda will offer the same 1.5-litre engine of the Amaze with an 80PS/160Nm tune. The drop in power is also accompanied with a drop in fuel efficiency. On the diesel-automatic powertrain front, the Ameo, with the most powerful engine and dual-clutch DSG transmission, appears to be the most attractive package. Features On Top-Spec Variant

The previous Amaze didn’t score high on the features front but Honda has fixed that issue by adding a few goodies in the mix. The Amaze’s top VX variant now gets LED position lights, LED tail lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, 7.0-inch floating digipad 2.0 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear camera and parking sensors, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, height-adjustable front seat, auto climate control, cruise control and push start-stop. Honda has so far revealed that dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX will be standard.

The Aspire is the most loaded car in this comparison, with 6 airbags on offer. The Ameo is, however, the most loaded with creature comforts like telescopic steering adjustment and rain-sensing wipers but it’s also the most expensive car.

Talking of prices, the Tata Tigor is the most affordable - and it still gets an extensive feature list which includes projector headlamps, 5-inch ConnectNext infotainment system from Harman with 8 speakers, video playback, climate control, and cooled glovebox.
