Mumbai: Major Fire Breaks Out At Hotel Fortune In Marine Lines; Around 30 Doctors Evacuated

The BMC has arranged temporary accommodation for emergency and essential service staffers, including doctors and nurses, in various hotels and lodges in the city due to COVID-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: A massive fire erupted in a five-storey hotel in south Mumbai’s Marine Lines on Wednesday night, in which around 30 doctors had a narrow escape. The doctors were treating  Coronavirus patients at JJ Hospital, and were  lodged in Hotel Fortune near Metro Cinema, where the blaze broke out, as per fire officials. All the doctors were evacuated safely and were immediately shifted to Trident Hotel. It was a level-2 fire and on receiving information, at least 10 to 12 fire engines from Mumbai Fire Brigade were rushed to the spot to control the fire. As per reports cooling operations were underway after the rescue work. The fire begun late Wednesday night at the second floor of Fortune Hotel and spread to fourth floor, leading to chaos among staff and those housed in the hotel. There were some coronavirus suspects also quarantined in the hotel apart from the doctors. Watch here: A short circuit is being said to be the cause behind the fire. News agency ANI tweeted the initial information about the fire: As per the information received, the hotel lacked firefighting equipments . Earlier on April 21, a massive fire broke out in a lodging room of Hotel Ripon near Mumbai Central, which was being used as a quarantine facility by the civic body. It is to be noted that the BMC has arranged temporary accommodation for emergency and essential service staffers, including doctors and nurses, in various hotels and lodges in the city due to COVID-19 pandemic.
