Mumbai Crime Branch Forms 2 Teams To Probe Murder Of Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Abhishek Ghosalkar

Mumbai Crime Branch has formed two teams to probe Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Abhishek Ghosalkar's murder by his alleged enemy and social activist Mauris Noronha.

The Crime Branch of Mumbai police on Friday formed two teams to investigate the murder of Abhishek Ghosalkar, son of former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, during a 'Facebook Live' by a 'social activist' who later shot himself, reported news agency PTI. While one team headed by an inspector rank official is probing the murder of the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, the second team is investigating the "accidental" death of the accused Mauris Noronha, a police official said.

The Crime Branch probe will focus on various aspects of the murder case including how Mauris got the weapon and who provided it to him, if he was intoxicated at the time of the incident, and will also question the people who were present at the spot when Mauris shot Ghosalkar, PTI reported.

The incident took place on Thursday evening at assailant Mauris Noronha's office located in IC Colony, in the northern suburb of Boriwali (West). A viral video later showed Ghosalkar being shot in the abdomen and shoulder.

A police official later revealed that the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader was hit by four bullets and the murder accused used an illegal pistol to carry out the crime, using which he later shot himself.

Another police official said that Mauris and Ghosalkar had personal enmity and the Facebook live was set up to clarify that the bitter enmity had ended for the betterment of the IC Colony area, PTI reported.

After the murder, the case was registered by the MHB Colony police. DCP Datta Nalawade and Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satya Narayanm visited the spot for investigation. A senior official told PTI that the case was transfered to Mumbai Crime Branch for further probe.

Several Shiv Sena (UBT) supporters gathered outside North Mumbai's Karuna Hospital, where the deceased leader Ghosalkar, was rushed. Security has been beefed up in the surrounding areas to avoid any untoward incident, PTI reported.
