‘Maybe Terrorists Joined BJP’: Sanjay Raut Under Fire For Op Sindoor Remark, BJP Calls It ‘Insult To Forces’
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged Pahalgam terrorists joined BJP, sparking backlash. He also accused the BJP of politicising Operation Sindoor, demanding a special session.

A political storm erupted on Friday after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut alleged that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack had not been apprehended because they may have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His controversial remarks drew sharp condemnation from BJP leaders and even members within his own political alliance.
"Maybe the terrorists have joined the BJP, that’s why they are not being caught. The six terrorists from Pahalgam are not being caught, perhaps because one day you will receive a press note from the BJP office saying those six people have joined the BJP. So, forget everything," Raut was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.
BJP leader Ram Kadam was quick to respond on a news channel, terming Raut's comments as “absolutely ridiculous” and “an insult to our armed forces.” He emphasized the gravity of such statements, especially when security forces are actively engaged in anti-terror operations.
Even within the broader opposition camp, Raut's remarks did not find unanimous support. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam, who has distanced himself from Raut’s faction, criticized the remarks. “Shiv Sena-UBT leaders are making such statements out of frustration,” Nirupam said.
In a further escalation, Raut also took aim at the BJP-led central government over Operation Sindoor. He accused the ruling party of politicising the military operation and taking undue credit for the bravery of Indian soldiers.
"The politics of Operation Sindoor the Prime Minister of the country is going to every state and doing, this operation our soldiers have done it but there is competition to take credit for it, our Prime Minister is at the forefront of it, nobody can go and give the sacred system of Sindoor to anyone, if you send BJP workers to the women, then you are insulting Sindoor," Raut stated.
He also revealed that opposition parties have united to demand a special session in Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor. "Opposition people have once again come forward, and we are giving a letter with everyone's signature for a special session under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi," Raut added.
