Pak Activist Karima Baloch, Who Sent Raksha Bandhan Message to PM Modi, Found Dead

According to the reports, the prominent activist Karima Baloch who fled Pakistan in 2016, was reported missing by the Toronto police on Sunday.

In a shocking turn of events, renowned activist Karima Baloch highly known for raising voice against Pakistan Army and government atrocities in Balochistan, has reportedly been found dead in Toronto, Canada. The Toronto police found her dead in an unexplained circumstances in the Canadian city on Monday (December 21). Though the cause of her death remains uncertain, a few media reports have cited sources saying that the police found her body drowned off on an island near Toronto’s lakeshore. Her husband Hammal Haider has identified her body, which is with the local police for now. According to the reports, the Baloch National Movement has announced forty days of mourning in honour of the deceased activist. Who Was Karima Baloch? A pioneer of women activism in Balochistan, Karima was a Canadian refugee who had escaped from Balochistan with help from a few friends when her life was in danger. Formerly a student of psychology in Pakistan, Karima in 2016 recorded a Raksha Bandhan message for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking support for their struggle for independence. In her message to PM Narendra Modi, Baloch had said that his sisters of Balochistan will fight their battle by themselves, all they need is him to be their voice. She was also named as one of the world`s 100 most "inspirational and influential" women in 2016 by the BBC. Karima had rose to fame as a leader of a student body -- the Baloch Students Organization (Azad). Her group campaigned for students of Balochistan and advocated the region's independence from Pakistan.
